Frontend Engineer

We're solving EDI

At Stedi, we’re rebuilding the technological backbone of the B2B economy. Trillions of dollars flow annually through a global network of commerce via an archaic framework called EDI, but there hasn’t been a major new EDI platform in decades (you can read more about EDI here).

We make software for developers to help them build modern EDI systems. Our goal is to make software so great that all the world’s business transactions run on our rails – and users won’t know or care, because it works exactly as expected.

We have lightning in a bottle: 70+ engineers and designers working across 7 time zones in 17 countries, shipping products 24 hours a day, 6 days a week; a lean business team to support the company’s infrastructure; passion for eliminating toil and automating what we can; a culture of writing; $71 million in funding from investors like Stripe, Addition, USV, and First Round Capital.

The team you’ll work on

Stedi is looking for a frontend engineer to join our internal front-end platform team. We work in a highly technical space — it’s full of detail, interesting problems, and knotty user experience challenges. You’ll be joining a team that builds the tooling and components that enables all of Stedi’s product teams to ship beautiful and usable customer experiences.

This team is predominantly based in New Zealand (UTC+12) and Australia (UTC+10), so you'll ideally be in a timezone that has 3-4 hours overlap with us.

What you'll do

You’ll help shape the frontend architecture of Stedi’s platform. As a foundational hire on this team, you’ll work to craft beautiful and usable customer experiences and own our UI component library. You’ll develop reusable, responsible, and accessible components that create a cohesive experience through our platform.

You’ll improve the frontend development experience at Stedi. By focusing on developer ergonomics, supporting rapid iteration, and providing real-time feedback about accessibility, performance, and browser compatibility, you’ll own and drive the changes that provide a delightful experience for all of Stedi product engineering teams.

You’ll collaborate and partner with multiple teams. At Stedi, we’re doing micro-frontends with multiple teams shipping discrete parts of the UI. You’ll partner with multiple teams to deliver micro-frontend solutions that behave like a cohesive customer experience. You’ll also work on core JavaScript libraries that let product teams build and experiment on web applications that are resilient, performant, and operationally sound.

You’ll constantly strive towards iteration and improvement. You’ll drive frontend reliability improvements across Stedi products, through new platforms, capabilities, and best-in-class tools.

Who you are

You are experienced. You have expertise working with design systems, component libraries, and are comfortable working with a modern frontend technology stack (Javascript/Typescript, React, css-in-js). You also have experience working on distributed user interfaces and building tools to enable other teams to be productive.

You care about the customer. You know that it’s the small details that make the difference - optimizing performance, making components accessible, and finely tuning interactions to delight the user.

You want to create and execute your own work. You thrive in fast-paced environments and are comfortable with not knowing the answer to something. You are willing to roll up your sleeves no matter what the challenge is.

You enjoy working cross functionally. Strong verbal and written communication skills to bridge the gap between design, product, and engineering in a remote context.

At Stedi, we're looking for people who are deeply curious and aligned to our ways of working. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't perfectly match the job description. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of any status protected under federal, state, or local law.
