RC Root Cause
To specify the specific part responsible for a customer complaint in a request for service of a product and/or to describe the particular failure mechanism in a failing part or assembly
Code identifying the type/source of the descriptive number used in Product/Service ID (234)
P0102: If either RC-01 or RC-02 is present, then the other is required
Identifying number for a product or service
RC02 contains the part number of the assembly or part that is the fundamental cause of the customer complaint.
RC03 contains the name or identify code of the manufacturer that supplied the part.
Code identifying the agency assigning the code values
C0406: If RC-04 is present, then RC-06 is required
RC04 identifies the source of the codes in RC05 and RC06.
A reference that indicates the table or text maintained by the Source Qualifier
C0504: If RC-05 is present, then RC-04 is required
RC05 refers to a specific table belonging to the agency specified by RC04.
Code describing the condition of the part or assembly that is the root cause of the problem being reported or repaired
R0607: At least one of RC-06 or RC-07 is required
RC06 or RC07 describes the condition of the part or assembly that is the root cause of the problem being reported or repaired.

RC08 can be used to describe a root cause condition. It may only be used in conjunction with either RC06 or RC07.
Code indicating a Yes or No condition or response
RC09 refers to whether a part was repaired or replaced. A "Y" indicates it was repaired; an "N" indicates it was replaced.
