EDI 821 Financial Information Reporting

This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Financial Information Reporting Transaction Set (821) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used to report balances, detail and summary financial transactions, and other related account information. It can be used by financial institutions and their agents to report to their clients.

  1. To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number

  2. To indicate the beginning of a transaction set.

    1. To identify a party by type of organization, name and code

      The first occurence of the N1 segment is the forwarder of the financial information.
    2. To identify a person or office to whom administrative communications should be directed

      1. To specify account information.

      2. To specify the currency (dollars, pounds, francs, etc.) used in a transaction

      3. To identify the specific monetary balances associated with a particular account.

    4. FIR Loop Optional
      Repeat >1
      1. To specify the details of financial information transactions.

      2. To specify identifying numbers.

      3. To uniquely identify a transaction to an application.

      4. To indicate the funds availability in days.

  4. To indicate the end of the transaction set and provide the count of the transmitted segments (including the beginning (ST) and ending (SE) segments).
