This X12 Transaction Set contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Trailer Usage Report Transaction Set (227) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This standard can be used to transmit information related to the shipper's, consignee's, or third party's planned usage of a trailer supplied by a motor carrier for trailer inventory reporting purposes only. This transaction set is used to provide the motor carrier with information related to the loading of a trailer, rejection of the trailer, and reported location. It is not to be used to provide a motor carrier with data relative to a load tender or pickup notification and requires no response.

  1. To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number

  2. To transmit the identifying SCAC code and effective date and time for the data in the transaction set

    1. To identify a party by type of organization, name, and code

      The first iteration of Loop 0100 is used to convey name and address detail to identify the sender of the transaction set.
      Subsequent iterations of Loop 0100 are used to convey name and address detail to identify the location of the trailer.

    5. To identify a person or office to whom communications should be directed

    6. To transmit information in a free-form format, if necessary, for comment or special instruction

        The G62 segment is used to provide the date/time the trailer arrived at the reported location.

  4. To indicate the end of the transaction set and provide the count of the transmitted segments (including the beginning (ST) and ending (SE) segments)
