This X12 Transaction Set contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Rate Group Definition Transaction Set (490) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used to define and name a group of elements (patron, geography, commodity, shipment conditions) pertinent to a tariff.

  2. To specify primary identification data for request or information

  3. To assign an identification to a docket

  4. To indicate the list identity for the details following

  5. To communicate basis of pricing, such as contract number, quote number, or tariff number

  6. To specify general term text in a rate docket

  7. To define the geographic region from or to which a rate docket applies

  8. To specify condition restrictions or provisions applicable to the rate docket

  9. To identify the commodity to which the application of a rate docket is restricted
