This X12 Transaction Set contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Estimated Time of Arrival and Car Scheduling Transaction Set (421) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This transaction set can be used to allow railroads to exchange car scheduling and estimated time of arrival data between carriers.

  1. To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number

  2. To transmit basic data relating to car scheduling information

  3. To transmit identifying information as specified by the Reference Identification Qualifier

  4. To identify the service commitment schedules

  5. To identify the waybill and to specify the equipment used and the destination details

  6. To transmit scheduled events such as arrivals, departures, and interchange times

  7. To identify the rail origin of the shipment

  8. To identify the rail destination of the shipment

  9. To identify a party by type of organization, name, and code

  13. To identify the car service directive or other car movement instructions applicable to the empty movement of the car

  14. To specify the chassis equipment details in terms of identifying numbers, weights, and ownership

  16. To specify mechanical protective service and ventilation instructions
