This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Motor Carrier Bill of Lading Transaction Set (211) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This transaction set can be used to allow shippers or other parties, responsible for contracting with a motor carrier, to provide a legal bill of lading for a shipment. It is not to be used to provide a motor carrier with data relative to a load tender, pick-up manifest, or appointment scheduling.

    • BOL01 is the Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC) of the carrier that is to provide transportation services.
    Usage notes

    The Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC) is a unique code used to identify transportation companies. It is typically two to four alpha characters in length and was developed by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association in the 1960s to help the transportation industry computerize data and records.     Burlington Stores discontinued use of the MS2 Equipment or Container Owner and Type in January 2015, the MS3 segment will be removed entirely at that time both from the specification as well as the 211 document. Data/Content migration took place on July 10, 2014 following carrier notification. Information will be available in the original as well as the replacement location until January 2015 when the MS2 Equipment or Container Owner will be removed.

    • MS201 Standard Carrier Alpha Code is available today and can be found in the BOL01.
    • MS202 207 Equipment Number; Burlington Stores will use the uses the 'EQ' qualifier in the L1102 Reference Identification Qualifier to describe the equipment number of the chassis, container or trailer for the current shipment in the L1101 Reference Identification.

    Invoicing Domestic Warehouse Shipments from DC to Store:

    Burlington Stores requires the carriers to reference the 'LO' qualifier in the N9 Reference Identification segment on the 210 Motor Carrier Freight Details and Invoice such that the N901 Reference Identification Qualifier = 'LO' qualifier to identify the Load Planning Number (WMS Load number) from the Burlington Stores Warehouse Management System (Manhattan Associates WMS) on the 210 Motor Carrier Freight Details and Invoice for all Domestic Warehouse Shipments from DC to Store locations for freight accounting purposes.

    Burlington Stores ALSO requires the carriers to identify the B303 Shipment Identification Number as the 'LO' qualifier from the L1102 segment on the 211 Motor Carrier Bill of Lading on all Domestic Warehouse Shipments from DC to Store locations for freight accounting purposes for the purpose identifying the Load Planning Number (WMS Load number) from the Burlington Stores Warehouse Management System (Manhattan Associates WMS) on all Domestic Warehouse Shipments from DC to Store locations for freight accounting purposes.
