Spotlight: Andy Wu @ Intelizen

A spotlight is a short-form interview with a leader in health tech. In this spotlight, you'll hear from Andy Wu, Co-founder of Intelizen.

What does Intelizen do?

Intelizen accelerates revenue recovery for healthcare organizations. Our platform converts complex payer documentation into standardized datasets to automate the reconciliation of payments and claims data. The outcome – elimination of underpayments via payer contract intelligence.

How did you end up working in health tech?

My background is in finance and proptech, so I’ve seen, heard, and felt the need for AI across various underserved (what some might call "unsexy") industries. During my time at Leverton (pre- and post-acquisition), I brought machine and deep learning document intelligence solutions to sectors including Real Estate, Legal, and Consulting/Managed Services. Throughout my career, I’ve faced many similar known-unknown challenges – figuring out how to thoughtfully invest in, solve for, and apply AI across antiquated industries.

Healthcare in particular is such a unique space to build in because fundamental business challenges – whether that’s as broad as GTM or as specific as pricing strategy – are not just commercially impactful but also have a moral angle: patient care. In this sense, I believe we can all relate to the underlying underpayment challenge and see why it’s such a critical problem to solve for.

How does your role intersect with revenue cycle management (RCM)?

Effective change comes through a combination of innovation supported by education. From demos to user onboarding, the customer journey begins on that first discovery call and extends well beyond contract signature. Different organizations/teams operate at different speeds, so fluidity is necessary when it comes to balancing strategy vs. tactics – my role is to manage that at every turn, converting ROI positive initiatives into realized outcomes.

What do you think RCM will look like two years from now?

What RCM looks like today will be totally different in even a year from now as solutions like Intelizen rewrite the playbook on how to leverage AI across each part of the revenue cycle.
