EDI 214 Transportation Carrier Shipment Status Message

Functional Group QM

X12I Transportation Subcommittee

This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Transportation Carrier Shipment Status Message Transaction Set (214) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This transaction set can be used by a transportation carrier to provide shippers, consignees, and their agents with the status of shipments in terms of dates, times, locations, route, identifying numbers, and conveyance.

What is an EDI 214?

An EDI 214 Shipment Status Message communicates the current progress of a given shipment or group of shipments from a carrier to a third-party. It contains information about the shipment's current location (MS1 segment), current status (AT7 segment) and tracking number (B10 segment).

How is an EDI 214 used?

For example, Carrier A sends Vendor B EDI 214 Shipment Status Messages every time the shipment is scanned at a new facility en route to the final destination. This allows Vendor B to update their customer on the delivery status of their order.
