Stedi and Planet DDS partner to bring medical billing infrastructure to dental practices
Company
Dental-medical integration has been a talking point in the industry for years. The clinical rationale is well established: oral health is connected to systemic health, and dentists regularly see patients whose dental presentation is part of a larger medical picture (sleep apnea, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, head and neck cancer). The next frontier is the administrative side: giving dental practices the infrastructure to bill medical payers without standing up an entirely separate billing operation.
Today, Stedi and Planet DDS are announcing a partnership that gives dental practices access to medical claims processing directly through their practice management software. Planet DDS customers can now submit medical claims through Stedi's clearinghouse infrastructure without stitching together a separate billing system or contracting with a second vendor.
Why this matters
Medical claims look different from dental claims. They use different transaction formats, different code sets, and different payer networks. Bridging that gap requires clearinghouse infrastructure that handles the transaction layer: claim formatting, payer connectivity, real-time status, and remittance across both claim types.
That's what Stedi is built for. As a programmable, API-first clearinghouse, Stedi gives software platforms like DentalOS by Planet DDS the ability to support medical billing without pushing that complexity onto the practice or rebuilding around a second vendor.
What Planet DDS customers get
Denticon by Planet DDS is a practice management software serving thousands of dental practices across group and DSO markets. With this integration, those practices can submit medical claims, check eligibility across medical payers, and receive electronic remittance without leaving their existing workflow. Onboarding and account creation are streamlined by design, so practices can get up and running without the friction typically associated with adding a new clearinghouse relationship. For practices expanding into medical billing, this means a clear operational path without a parallel billing process.
The bigger picture
The dental industry is in the middle of a structural shift. Value-based care models, systemic health integration, and payer interest in whole-person cost of care are all creating pressure on dental practices to participate in a broader healthcare ecosystem. That participation requires administrative interoperability: the ability to exchange data with medical payers, health systems, and care coordination platforms using the same standards the rest of healthcare runs on.
Stedi's role in that shift is clearinghouse infrastructure that works across dental and medical transactions. The Planet DDS partnership is one concrete step in that direction: dental practices that want to move toward medical billing now have a path that doesn't require rebuilding their administrative stack.
If you're building software and medical billing is on your roadmap, we'd like to talk.
