Introducing real-time validation in Stedi's CMS-1500 form
Stedi's CMS-1500 form now checks your claim for errors as you fill it out. Stedi doesn't submit the claim until you fix every error.
The checks include Stedi's claim edits, which catch errors that would cause a payer to reject the claim.
![]()
Previously, the form checked the claim only when you clicked Submit claim. If the claim failed a claim edit, Stedi still created the claim. Stedi then rejected it right away with a 277CA claim acknowledgment.
Now, the form shows errors while you work. A claim that fails a claim edit stays in the form until you fix it, so you don't get a rejection to correct later.
How it works
When you submit a new claim using the form:
- When you leave a box, Stedi checks the claim. It shows errors only for the boxes you've already visited.
- When you click Submit claim, Stedi shows every remaining error in the form. The errors update as you fix them.
- When the claim passes every check, Stedi submits it to the payer.
Where errors appear
Stedi shows errors in two places:
- On the box – Validation errors in a specific box, such as a required box left blank. Stedi highlights the box. For example, if you leave Box 4 – Insured's name blank, Stedi highlights Box 4.
- In the error list – Claim edit errors. These appear only in the list at the top of the form.
Resubmissions
When you resubmit a claim using the CMS-1500 form, Stedi shows the claim's existing errors as soon as the form opens. This includes the claim edits the original claim failed. Stedi resubmits the claim only after it passes validation.
Test mode
Real-time validation also works when you use the CMS-1500 form in test mode. You can try it with test claims before you submit production claims.
