X12I Transportation Subcommittee

This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Train Sheet Transaction Set (161) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used to allow railroads to exchange train sheet information and ensure that crews operating equipment on other railroads are aware of current operating conditions.

  1. To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number

  2. To transmit identifying symbols, loads, empties, weights, lengths, horsepower, and related data

  3. To specify information about a specific event

  4. To transmit identifying information as specified by the Reference Identification Qualifier

  5. To specify special handling instructions in coded or free-form format
