Spotlight: Damon Ebanks @ Medipyxis
Spotlight

A spotlight is a short-form interview with a leader in health tech. In this spotlight, you'll hear from Damon Ebanks, CEO of Medipyxis.
What does Medipyxis do?
Medipyxis is an AI-native EMR for wound care. We combine clinical workflows, real-time documentation guidance, and billing compliance into a single brain that helps solo providers and multi-facility groups get paid correctly the first time – without fighting their software.
How did you end up working in health tech?
In 2018 I joined Physician Partners of America and got my first real look at how clinics actually run. Three years ago a board-certified physician called me to help fix his operations for a wound care clinic – I built him a Notion-based workflow stack that solved everything he was struggling with. That's when I realized none of the off-the-shelf software actually fits how providers practice. So I built one that does.
How does your role intersect with revenue cycle management (RCM)?
Deeply. I designed the workflows and the compliance brain that sit underneath Medipyxis. Before a visit ever closes, the brain catches documentation gaps, maps the right ICD-10s and CPTs from clinical context, and verifies coverage. The claim that goes out the door has already passed a compliance check – fewer denials, faster cash, less back-office drag.
What do you think RCM will look like two years from now?
The back office stops being a department. Eligibility, prior auth, coding, and denial work all move upstream into the moment of care – handled by AI that's watching the chart in real time. The clinics that win will be the ones whose software does compliance proactively, not retroactively. The offshore RCM model compresses hard. RCM becomes a quality-control function, not a labor function.
